Healthiest Food Oils

What are the healthiest oils for your diet? It depends on whether you are using the oil cold or cooking with it. It also depends on how old it is. Chlorophyll in extra-virgin olive oil may cause it to go rancid over time.

Dr. Mercola has a good article about food oils. He believes coconut oil is good for cooking. Olive oil is good used cold but spoils and may break down in an unhealthy way when heated. Common oils from corn, canola, soy, sunflower, etc... may also be susceptible to heat damage. I think he has some good points to consider.

12 Year Old Break Up

Joseph and his mom
From Joseph

My twelve year old step son's girlfriend broke up with him recently. As I understand it, the conversation went something like this:

Girl:     I'm breaking up with you.

Joseph:    Why?

Girl:     There's not enough sparks.

Joseph:   (gaining his composure) Well, I just forgot to bring to bring my matches.

Things I Heard At *** Tire Pros

"C" is a old mechanic washing his hands like crazy at the end of the day.

Dan:   Your wife must hate dirty hands.

C:      No. I hate having dirty hands. My wife loves it when my hands are dirty though. It's money to her.

Who Owns Congress? A Campaign Cash Seating Chart | Mother Jones

Just sharing something from the "Economist" I found interesting. The money political candidates receive may be more telling than their party affiliations on how they stand on the issues. If you want to prevent bills from passing, you only need to control the Senate. You have fewer congressmen to influence and you need only one branch of congress to prevent a bill from passing.

Things I Learn From Working

In 2004, I moved from San Diego to Mississippi to operate several coffee shops with my brother the doctor. He struck up a conversation with a couple of local business owners one day and before you know it, we were their first franchisees. I didn't look into their financials like I should have. I took my brother at his word that this was a good opportunity. I ended up selling the last coffee shop in February 2010. I'm surprised we lasted that long considering all the businesses that failed in our area including several Starbucks.

Gillian Welch: Orphan Girl

One of my favorite songs. I can't listen to this song without tears finding their way into my eye sockets. I hope you like it.

This is Fox News

Has anyone else noticed how Fox News constantly publishes poles as if to tell us what we're thinking? Or, are they telling us how we should be thinking? Then, they spend another chunk of time telling us how "great" they are by bragging about their ratings. I've never heard this before from a news organization.

John Hiatt

John Hiatt is a singer songwriter whose voice grew on me after I appreciated his lyrics and music. I agree with the fan who said, "Very few people paint a picture with words as well as John Hiatt." "Dust Down a Country Road" is one of my favorites.

Could not get to sleep
It was on my wedding night
I was tangled in the sheets
And I was dreaming of a light
Pouring from her window
Coming up through the floor
Lifting up the darkness
Crashing through my kitchen door

Down to that old oak table
I went to take a look
And my whole life flashed before me
Just like a story book
She used to make me breakfast
Or sit around and talk
Have another cup of coffee
Or maybe take a little walk

CHORUS:
Dust down a country road
Blowing in the wind
Behind an old truck load
Up before the rooster crowed
There's an old dog staring
At the dust down a country road

And that truck is going somewhere
I just can't be sure
When tomorrow's just the day
After all that's gone before
And I always thought of leaving
I never could stay too long
Now her memory's catching up
And our sweet dreams are all gone

CHORUS

If I had a bullet I'd put it in this gun
And I'd catch that old dog napping
And I'd shoot him before he runs
Cause he ain't much good for nothin'
Except staring at the dust
Lord I wonder what he's looking at
Sneaking up on us

CHORUS

My Day: Work is Fine and Walmart is Dysfunctional

I have a good day at work. I come home and start doing my laundry and discover we're out of laundry detergent.

I go to Walmart to get some laundry detergent and decide to buy some salad fixings for dinner and other misc groceries while I'm here. First, I hit the produce section and pick up a bag of unpriced pine nuts. I ask the guy putting away grapes how much they are. He says, "I don't know." He stands there just looking at me

The Secret Big-Money Takeover of America

Robert Reich in the Huffington Post wrote,

"Not only is income and wealth in America more concentrated in fewer hands than it's been in 80 years, but those hands are buying our democracy as never before -- and they're doing it behind closed doors."

What we're seeing on TV and hearing on radio are political adds purchased with money from the wealthiest Americans telling us how they want us to vote. It's good for them but against the interests of the poor and middle class.

The sick need God and Miracles

My brother is a doctor and probably a good one. However, when I mentioned I hoped for a cure for my mother's ulcerative colitis, he simply said, "There was no cure and I might as well stop hoping for one. She just needs to learn to live with it."
