This subject, like many in the Christian Bible, has a tension built into it. Knowledge is always good, but not always what we need most. We get in trouble when we exalt knowledge above another quality such as love; or, exalt "knowledge" over humility when it turns out we really didn't know anything to begin with (see, Job 42:3). The Bible's reference to "knowledge" isn't merely referring to the amount of "facts" we know, but rather, the assimilation of truth in our lives. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 22:12 - "The eyes of the LORD keep watch over knowledge." God doesn't just watch over us and the sparrow, he watches over knowledge.
LIMITATIONS OF KNOWLEDGE
Job 42:3 - You asked, 'Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
Ecclesiastes 1:18 - For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.
1 Corinthians 8:1 - Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
1 Corinthians 13:8 - Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
IMPORTANCE OF KNOWLEDGE
Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 2:10 - For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
Proverbs 8:10 - Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,
Proverbs 15:14 - The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
Proverbs 19:2 - It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.
Proverbs 19:27 - Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
Proverbs 22:12 - The eyes of the LORD keep watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
Isaiah 53:11 - After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
2 Peter 1:2 - Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
